New Delhi, September 8, 2025 – The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) successfully observed Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 from August 16 to 31, reinforcing its commitment to the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission. The two-week campaign, aligned with the 2025 Swachhata Pakhwada Calendar, promoted cleanliness, hygiene, and sustainability across MHI’s premises and its Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), including Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Instrumentation Limited, NEPA Limited, and Cement Corporation of India.
The campaign commenced on August 18 with a pledge-taking ceremony led by Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, MHI. Officers and officials pledged to uphold Swachh Bharat principles, emphasising cleanliness as a shared responsibility.
On August 22, a comprehensive cleanliness drive was conducted at Udyog Bhawan, covering all rooms, staircases, corridors, and common areas. Obsolete items, including unserviceable furniture, computers, and printers, were removed to declutter workspaces, fostering a more efficient work environment.
Shri Vijay Mittal, Joint Secretary, MHI, felicitated Safai Mitras with gift items, recognising their unwavering dedication to maintaining hygiene. The Ministry also organised an awareness campaign to discourage single-use plastics, encouraging eco-friendly alternatives, and held an essay competition on the theme “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” engaging officers and officials in reflecting on the mission’s goals.
CPSEs Lead by Example
BHEL, a key CPSE under MHI, actively participated with initiatives across its units in Ranipet, Tiruchy, Hyderabad, Bhopal, and Delhi. On August 18, Executive Directors led pledge-taking ceremonies, followed by cleanliness drives at facilities like the DTG premises in Tiruchy and stores in Ranipet. Road cleaning initiatives in Hyderabad and Bhopal, coupled with awareness banners, underscored BHEL’s commitment to a cleaner, greener India.
Other CPSEs also made significant contributions. Instrumentation Limited organised an awareness program for teachers and children at IL Nursery School, followed by a cleanliness drive on its premises. NEPA Limited focused on workplace hygiene with a cleanliness drive in the Dryer Section basement and the Paper Machine backside area. Meanwhile, Cement Corporation of India’s Bokajan unit conducted a tree plantation drive, engaging employees and community members in environmental sustainability efforts.
