Jammu, like many rapidly urbanizing regions, faces significant challenges in managing its growing waste streams. With plastic pollution and inefficient waste systems affecting environmental health and community well-being, innovative and collaborative solutions are essential. The Integrated Waste Management Sustainability & Partnerships (Waste to Wealth) program, held on 13-14 December 2024 in Jammu, served as a platform to address these pressing issues.

The program brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and waste management experts to explore sustainable practices. Notable contributors included Mr. Prabhjot Sodhi, Senior Program Director (Circular Economy), CEE, who emphasized community-driven solutions, and Ms. Mandeep Kaur, IAS, Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development, J&K, who highlighted strategies for integrated urban waste systems.

Social Lab Director, Rahul Juware, presented a case study on solid waste management in Baramati, Maharashtra, showcasing how systematic approaches and entrepreneurship can transform waste into wealth. His insights offered actionable models that can be adapted to Jammu’s needs.

The event underscored the importance of partnerships, technology, and circular economy practices in tackling waste management challenges. As Jammu continues its journey toward sustainability, collaborative efforts like these will be pivotal in shaping a cleaner, greener future.
